It’s been a tough week for Mel B following the revelation that she’s filed for divorce from husband Stephen Belafonte, with Melanie alleging that she suffered abuse at the hands of her husband of ten years.
In court papers, the 41-year-old claimed that her husband ‘beat’ her, often as a result of jealousy. According to reports, the singer alleged in the official court documents (obtained by MailOnline) that she’d tried to leave a number of times, adding: ‘Every time I tried, [he] threatened me with violence and threatened to destroy my life in every possible way.’
Now, fresh claims have pointed to one of the specific times that Stephen became jealous, and it appears to involve her stint on The X Factor with Cheryl.
It’s no secret that the former Spice Girl got on well with the famous Geordie. But, according to reports, Stephen is said to have been angry with his wife after seeing her pinch Chezza’s bum backstage of the ITV show.
He was then allegedly banned from the studios.
A source told The Sun: ‘Mel was taken with Cheryl but it was harmless fun.
‘She’d always come into her dressing room in hardly any clothes while holding her co-star’s hand and grabbing her bum.’
Of course, Cheryl would have had no idea of the effect of the banter, and was having harmless fun with her friend.
The source added: ‘He liked to be in total control of everything. He was deeply uncomfortable with Mel flirting with Cheryl because it didn’t involve him.
‘The reaction was totally over the top but it prompted total rage.
‘Around that time she had him banned from The X Factor studios.’
According to the report, Stephen’s anger became common knowledge with the crew that worked on the series, and many are said to have raised concerns privately.
Melanie has now been granted a restraining order, as well as primary custody of their five-year-old daughter Madison, in a sworn order from a judge.
