The most followed celebrity on Instagram, Selena Gomez, opens up about some of her social media demons...
Becoming the most followed celebrity on Instagram is no mean feat.
And so, with an incredible 118 million subscribers, Selena Gomez has now spoken out about some of the pressures of having such a huge social media following – admitting that she is planning to take a social media hiatus.
In an interview with The New York Times, 24-year-old Selena has revealed that the amount of trolling comments she receives on a post often forces her to delete the app ‘at least once a week’.

Selena explains: ‘You fixate on the [negative] ones… They’re not like, “You’re ugly.” It’s like they want to cut to your soul. Imagine all the insecurities that you already feel about yourself and having someone write a paragraph pointing out every little thing – even if it’s just physical.’
Continuing, Selena explained how becoming the most followed celebrity had made her feel: ‘As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out. It had become so consuming to me. It’s what I woke up to and went to sleep to’.
Selena, who is currently dating The Weeknd, continued: ‘I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn’t want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn’t want to care about’.
And so, Selena has decided to cut her Insta-habit and go cold turkey: ‘I always end up feeling like s*** when I look at Instagram. Which is why I’m kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit’.
